Officers and Directors
Edwin Terrel Meek - President
Terry Meek is the founding principal of Edwin Terrel Meek Architect, a small full-service architectural firm originally founded in Atlanta, Georgia in 1974. Since then, he has completed more than 200 architectural projects of various types and sizes for a diverse clientele. Notable design highlights include the adaptive reuse and historic renovation of Callanwolde Fine Arts Center in Atlanta and the Old Decatur Courthouse, and design of the Decatur Bandstand. Terry and his wife, Janiece, relocated to Asheville in 2001, and his design practice remains as interesting and varied as are the visions of his long-time and new clients.
He is licensed to practice in North Carolina, Georgia, Kentucky, and is NCARB certified. He was appointed by the Asheville City Council to serve on the Asheville River District Design Review Committee, and is in his third year of Board service for the Kenilworth Residents Association.
Terry views the practice of architecture as a calling, and membership in the American Institute of Architects as a professional privilege and responsibility. He originally became a member of the AIA in 1973, and began service on the Executive Committee of the Asheville Section as Secretary in 2008 which led to service on the AIA North Carolina Board in 2009 as President-elect. His vision for leadership this year is “Remembering Why You Wanted to Become an Architect.” Prompted by two years of deep Recession, this theme is intended to bring together seasoned and young professionals to share their stories, experiences, and their visions for the future and the transformational power of architectural design in our lives and in our world. Through these topical events, the Asheville Section members will truly reap the benefits of professional membership: to be uplifted, encouraged, and engaged with their profession in a manner that meets their highest personal and professional needs.
